Supermemory alternative: Streamient vs Supermemory

Choose Supermemory for API-led context infrastructure and personal memory surfaces. Choose Streamient when a team needs a shared, human-editable memory layer across email, URLs, Git, notes, projects, and AI clients.

Direct comparison

Supermemory offers memory and context infrastructure for people, developers, and agents. Its MCP server exposes memory and recall through an OAuth connection with project scoping. Streamient is open-source memory infrastructure for humans and AI, combining visible records, collaboration, capture workflows, API access, and MCP.

The products overlap around persistent context but begin from different operating models. Supermemory emphasizes a context layer and API. Streamient emphasizes a workspace people maintain and several AI tools share.

When Supermemory is the better fit

  • Context infrastructure and an API are the primary requirements.
  • Your application team wants to embed recall in a custom product.
  • The documented Supermemory project and memory model matches your scope.
  • You prefer its individual, developer, or scale plan structure.

Supermemory’s MCP introduction documents OAuth connection, memory, recall, and project-based isolation. Test those tools in the client and plan you expect to use; product surfaces and quotas can differ by tier.

When Streamient is the better fit

  • People need an explicit workspace for notes, decisions, URLs, email, Git, and relationships.
  • Several AI clients should use one body of knowledge under team permissions.
  • Browser capture and operational source workflows matter alongside memory APIs.
  • You need a publicly available self-hosting repository without selecting a higher hosted tier.

Streamient’s wider object model supports AI knowledge-base operations. That breadth may be unnecessary when the application needs only an API for user memory and recall.

Pricing and limits

At review time, Supermemory’s pricing page listed Free at $0, Pro at $19/month, Max at $100/month, and Scale at $399/month, with Enterprise available separately. Self-hosting was described on Scale and Enterprise. Confirm current documents, requests, storage, seats, and support terms.

Streamient lists Free at $0/month and an introductory Unlimited plan at $49/month; $99 is the later regular price. Hosted pricing does not include the engineering cost of integrating either service. Self-hosting adds infrastructure, backups, upgrades, monitoring, and security work.

Human workflow and source visibility

Ask who will correct a false memory and where they will do it. Streamient makes notes, memories, URLs, emails, projects, and graph links visible in a team application. Supermemory provides its own memory surfaces and API-driven workflows; validate whether the visibility and collaboration controls fit your operators.

For both products, distinguish original source content from an extracted memory. A summary should link to evidence, a preference should have an owner and scope, and a replaced decision should not silently remain current.

Security and privacy

OAuth connection is useful, but transport authentication is only one layer. Test project and user authorization before retrieval, write scopes, source provenance, malicious content, auditability, expiry, export, and deletion from primary and derived stores.

Memory can turn prompt injection into persistent influence. Retrieved text should be treated as data, not authority. Constrain tools and require human approval for high-impact actions. Apply the AI memory security threat model to both products.

Export and lock-in

Before purchase, export a representative project from the target plan. Check whether the export includes stable IDs, timestamps, source URLs, ownership, project scope, relationships, attachments, and deletion status. Ask how API-created and MCP-created records appear in the export.

Streamient offers a public repository, API, and Git synchronization. Supermemory describes self-hosting for higher tiers. These are meaningful portability paths, not proof of zero migration cost. Data models and derived indexes still differ.

Migration from Supermemory to Streamient

  1. Inventory projects, memories, sources, user identities, and application integrations.
  2. Export a sample with metadata and determine which fields carry scope and provenance.
  3. Map durable memories to Streamient memory records and source content to notes or URLs.
  4. Recreate project boundaries and user permissions before importing sensitive data.
  5. Preserve source links and timestamps; flag generated summaries as derived.
  6. Run identical retrieval questions in both systems and review the supporting records.
  7. Switch one client, monitor corrections, then migrate remaining workflows.

For migration in the other direction, decide how Streamient notes, email records, graph links, and Git context map to Supermemory’s project and document model. Archive objects that have no safe equivalent instead of flattening them without provenance.

Methodology and limitations

This comparison uses Supermemory’s public product, MCP, and pricing pages plus Streamient’s public product, docs, pricing, and repository, reviewed August 12, 2026. It is not a performance benchmark. Streamient publishes it; there are no affiliate links. Verify current plan terms with each vendor.

Bottom line

Supermemory is a strong candidate for context infrastructure and API-led memory. Streamient is a strong candidate when a team wants visible memory infrastructure shared by people and many clients. Test both with the same sources, project boundaries, correction tasks, security cases, and export exercise.
